Moose are long- legged and heavy bodied with a drooping nose, a "bell" or dewlap under the chin, and a small tail. They are colored from golden brown to almost black, depending on the season and the age of the animal. Adult males in their prime can weigh up to 1,500 pounds. Males are called bulls and females are called cows. Only the bulls have antlers which they lose yearly, usually in December or January. Moose may be discovered anywhere along the Denali road.
