OCR: Wolves occur throughout mainland Alaska. They are highly adaptable and exist in a wide variety of habitats from the rain forests of the southeast Panhandle to the arctic tundra along the Beaufort Sea. Most adult males in Alaska weigh from 85 to 115 pounds, but they can reach 130 pounds. Females average 5 to 10 pounds lighter than males. Wolves reach adult size by about one year of age. Wolves are highly social animals and usually live in packs that include par- ents and pups of the year, some yearlings from the previous year and often other adults. Pack size is usually from 6 to 12 animals, but can be as many as 20 to 30 wolves.
