  39.        Welcome!  I bet many of you wonder where the hell the Report has been,
  40. or me for that matter.  Most of you had suspected it was a legal problems,
  41. since just before I left for a couple months I noted that a psuedo 411 service
  42. sent over some people to find out what they could do about me using their
  43. computer systems, VMS.  TSR #16 Part 2 outlines most of that.  The Last Visit
  44.  got will be in this file as usual.

  46.        Again I wasn't sure if I should contunie releasing Syndicate Reports.
  47. But once in a while I get the free time, and it's my choice what I do with it.
  48. I still accept articles and news if you can get them to me.  I am not going LD
  49. as much as due to the legal attention.  2 Other files should accompany this
  50. one.  The second part of 3rd Party Fraud, and bibliographic story entitled
  51. "I'm not a Crook."  Expect of of the two or both out soon.

  55. IBM PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR ISDN IF WORLD STANDARDS ARE SET:                   TSR

  57. Research Triangle Park, NC -- IBM Corp. left little doubt of its commitment
  58. to a worldwide Integrated Systems Digital Network (ISDN) but said it won't
  59. continue to participate if the world can't agree on stanards.
  60.        "We have strong intent and desire for ISDN to be a reality," said Len
  61. Felton, the IBM Communications Products Division's director of quality and
  62. general development.  He noted that much work remains to be done by
  63. participants in the Consultative Committee on International Telephony and
  64. elegraphy (CCITT), which is trying to formulate standards that would permit
  65. the world's telephone systems to communicate digitally.

  68.      The US telephone system will not be a stumbling clock to a digital
  69. phone network, said Felton.  He said that IBM's independent research shows that
  70. by 1989 enough digital equipment and switches will be installed to provide
  71. connections to most of the country.  Standards should be wil enough ironed out
  72. by that time to being widespread use of ISDN, he said.  The company is
  73. urrently involved in several field trials in the United States and Europe.

  77. FCC DOCUMENTS VIA GENERAL ELECTRIC NET:
  78.        GE Information Services is now carrying the National On-Line Regulatory
  79. Access database of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) textual material.
  80. The service, which costs 100$ per hour at 1200 baud plus a one-time charge of
  81. 190$, consists of the FCC Daily Digest and FCC Library, which includes the
  82. complete text of comments, orders, letters, motions, and petitions, GE said.

  89. D&B ENFORCES RESTRICTIONS OF DIALOG ON-LINE SUBSCRIBERS:

  91.        New York -- Dun & Bradstreet last week stated that it will continue to
  92. ban certain subscribers from its financial databases available on-line via
  93. Dialog Information Services.
  94.  
  95.        After examining the facts of the case, in which Dialog users had been
  96. denied access to Dun's Financial Records, D&B now intends to enforce it's
  97. policy.  "We will continue to deny access to financial business and credit
  98. services for unauthorized persons or organizations," said Bill Doescher, VP of
  99. ublic relations and advertising for Dun & Bradstreet.  Dun's Financial
  100. ecords contains financial information on privately held companies that fear
  101. the information could be used by labor unions against them when negotiating on
  102. behalf of employees.

  106. BOARD ALLOWS REMOTE PC USER FROM PHONE:
  107.        BCB Electronic Sales has announced Tone-Talker TT-100, and IBM PC--
  108. compatible multilayered board that provides communications via Touch Tone
  109. phones.  TT-100 allows a touch tone telephone to interact with any commercially
  110. available program, the company said.  Included resident software coverts Touch
  111. Tones into commands as though the PC keyboard.  Using this system, remote
  112. users can communicate with a PC without a modem, using the phone keypad for
  113. input and receiving voice responses from the TT-100.
  114.        The TT-100 features defitiezed voice record and playback, text-to-speech
  115. voice syntehsis, and call forwarding.  Applications of the product include
  116. oice messaging, remote data entry, sales query, order entry systems, machines
  117. ontrol systems, customer response systems, and telemarketing.
  118.        The 995$ TT-100 is programmed using MS-DOS' batch file language.  It can
  119. interface with digital phone systems, PBXes, two-way radio, and cellular
  120. phones.Other features include a dual mcicroprocessor, a 300/600 bps modem, an
  121. acoustic coupler, and autodialer, and a 4-line-by-2 character LED display.

  128. GENIE ONLINE SERVICE CUTS 2400 BPS RATES:
  129.        Effective last month, the cost of the 2400 bps Genie Online Service
  130. from GE Information Services has been cut from 15$ to 12.50$ during non-prime
  131. time.  At 300 or 1200 bps, Genie costs 5$ per hour for non-prime time, which
  132. is between 6 pm and 8 am local time Monday through Fridat and all dat Saturday
  133. nd Sunday, GE said.

  135.        GE also gave 44 new cities local access to Genie.  The company said the
  136. Gep charge would increat on January 1 from 18$ to 29.95$ but would include two
  137. frto be used within 30 days.

  144. FCC CRACKDOWN CAUSING FAR EAST PC VENDORS TO MEET REGULATIONS:
  145.  
  146.        The FCC stringent crackdown on personal computers that give off
  147. excessive ratio signals has resulted in a unique statistic that proves it is
  148. better to do it right the first time.  According to the FCC officials, on Far
  149. East vendor had to spend 30$ to retrofit each unit after being denied
  150. ommission certification.  However, new models that are designed to adhere to
  151. the FCC's regulatins cost only about 2$ more to manufacture thanlast year's
  152. models.

  154.        Since the crackdown started, Far East companies have fallen in line
  155. behind the government's marketing and engineering standards and are doing a
  156. better job of meeting those standards, officials said.

  159. THE LAST VISIT FROM OFFICIALS:
  160.        I'm not sure the exact date they came over, but anyways it went like
  161. this:  Just after I put my cycle in the garage after school, a car pulls up.
  162. I didn't like the whole scene one bit.  It was the same Edina Minnesota Cop
  163. that came to see me before about the Connection Breakin and a Secret Service
  164. Agent.  I knew the cop, so he introduced me to the S.Service Man.  I won't list
  165. any names.  Well, they asked if they could step in my room and have a
  166. little chat of my cituation with the Connection and this other VMS system.
  167. They were much more concerned with the Connection since Silent Assault was
  168. busted on the same system.  I think they thought it was sort of a big area for
  169. Phreak and Hack information to be exchange.  Infact it was for a while, for
  170. Silent Assault and Me.  But no major information on my part.  Just Silent had
  171. all the dangerous information which brought him to his term in jail.  (See
  172. transmittal #14 for article).  All I ever used it for was voice and data
  173. message accounting.  I did run a private system on one of the lines for a
  174. approximately a month, although it didn't last long with the busts happening.
  175.        When we got in my room, they both took and seat and went right out to
  176. ask me what I knew.  They asked me specific formulas to hacking into the VMS's
  177. and other systems locally.  I only told them steps to the Connection systems
  178. since they could get the information on their own, or they knew it already.
  179. They asked me questions like if I had ever used illegal credit cards or codes
  180. lately.  They knew I used MCI before, but that was long since a past habit.
  181. Also, they asked for programs that hack.  I gave them the disks I had since I
  182. wouldn't need them. And in case I did need them, I could get them on any
  183. system.  They also asked for printouts of the directories on the disks.  This
  184. was no skin off my back so I cooperated.  The whole time the SS Man took mega
  185. notes as if he was going to write a book when he retires.  Retirment didn't
  186. seem to long off for this guy, so he was probably going to write a novel.
  187.        All and all, it went well.  I they explained that since I was so co-
  188. operative and such...that they'd try to get the charges dropped.  Even if I did
  189. go to court,the judge could only slap my hand.  Maybe a fine, but nothing
  190. too major with my record.  Clean.

  192.        I'll leave you with a bit of advise.  If at all you meet up with
  193. authorities of most any type, try and cooperate with them.  Do so just enough
  194. not to get anyone, including yourself, in any trouble.  When being questioned,
  195. think fast what your going to say and reply quickly and clearly.  They are
  196. experts on questioning and can tell if the BS is being shoveled.  Don't worry
  197. about anything unless you know your up a creek.  Just stay cool.
