Subj: PRO-34 SQUELCH
Part II - PRO34 Modifications......
-----------------------------
The PRO-34 suffers from the same "rubber band" squelch
problem as the PRO-2004. What I have done is used the fix
for the 2004 and applied it to the PRO-34. Having the ser-
vice manuals for both of these units made this very easy.
Only attempt this if you have good desoldering/soldering
skills and the correct tools.
1- Remove back cover and the top pc board as described in
the cellular mod intructions.
2- Locate IC101 which is a TK10420 at the lower left of
pc board.
3- Locate the IC's pins 12 and 14 on the other side of the
pc board where all of the resistors and caps are surface
mount type devices. Gently remove R162 (not labeled)
which is soldered on the 2 traces from pins 12 and 14.
4- Replace this resistor with a 130 K ohm 1/8 watt or 1/10
if you can find one. You may wish to vary the size to
play around. Solder it directly to the IC pins 12 and 14
on the bottom side of the pc board. FYI- R162 is 27 K.
Put the unit back together. The squelch should be alot
tighter now! ooooH yea! BTW... Diode D10 on the CPU pc board
is some kind of option. Anyone wanna take it out??
Also, the PRO-2004's image rejection is MUCH BETTER that the
PRO-34's.

.....Eddie, you may want to add this to your rewrite of
the first one.
Enjoy!
