STEP 4
Warm up the work piece using no
torch motion. Torch motion in
steel welding is to dissipate
the heat over a larger area.
Aluminum, because of its highly
heat-conductive nature, dissi-
pates the heat too much! Keep
the flame very close to the
work. Get some flux on the work
by momentarily bringing the
welding rod into the flame.

STEP 5
Unless you are very experienced,
you will not see the slight
change that occurs as the alum-
inum liquifies. The tuned eye
sees a slight depression in the
surface, possibly a matte skin
covering a glossiness under-
neath. Liquification occurs
slightly after the flux
liquifies or spreads out.
