  35. transmission,  a  motorcycle  or
  36. moped engine casing or a washing
  37. machine gear box. Clean an  area
  38. to  weld  some  beads.  Aluminum
  39. must not only be clean, but must
  40. be sanded or filed to remove  an
  41. invisibe  thin  layer  of  oxide
  42. that forms. This should be  done
  43. just moments before welding.

  66. Light  the  torch using less gas
  67. velocity and one size larger tip
  68. than you would for steel. Normal
  69. gas  velocity  would  blow light
  70. weight  liquid  aluminum   away.
  71. Less gas  velocity does not work
  72. with steel  because  the  sparks
  73. would backfire  the  flame,  but
  74. aluminum creates no sparks.
