Notice that the fittings on the
acetylene regulator are notched.
These notches are a code to
remind you that acetylene fit-
tings are left-hand threaded.
This way they cannot be mixed-up
with the normal-threaded oxygen
regulators. Imagine the problems
that could be created if the
low-pressure acetylene regulator
was attached to the 2000 psi
oxygen bottle.

Another reason not to mix up
the parts: Oxygen by itself does
not burn, it only enhances burn-
ing. Acetylene by itself burns
with a low-temperature, smoky
fire. But mixed together, they
potentially explosive. If you
combine the two gases in one
hose, you have a long, thin bomb.
