Norton Antivirus was advertised and sold with clear representation
that any future vaccines would be distributed FREE to owners of
the product. These "antivirus definitions" were to be -- and are
distributed via BBSs. If you bought version 2 last year and now
try to load the latest file, you'll notice that you get a message
about how definitions won't work with your version and how you
will have to go buy an upgrade to version 2.1 of the product.
This "planned obsolescence" might not have been so unconscionable
if we the owners had not been persuaded to believe that we would
be provided new definitions at NO COST.
If you would like be a beneficiary of a class action suit or know
of a good lawyer who would be willing to head up a suit against
Symantec, please send me a message on the Invention Factory BBS
(212-274-8119 -- 9600, N81) or mail me your name, address, phone
number, and a BRIEF statement about your experience to:
R. MacKenzie
110 Main Street
Port Washington, NY 11050
You will NOT be contacted unless we A) need more information
etc., or B) win the case and are distributing the award. Please
do not inquire as to the status of the case ... No response will
be given. Today is March 1st, 1993. Please submit your name and
comments as soon as possible (preferably before July 1, 1993).
An arbitrary cut off date for qualification on the list has not
been established and nothing can be guaranteed to come of this.
