1. HOW TO GET HELP
-------------------
If you have any problems, please read this file, and the Aciran manual first.
If you still have a question and need assistance, help is available from
the following source:
Write to me at the following address:
James Herron
Aciran Software Systems,
29 duncryne Place,
BishopBriggs,
Glasgow G64 2DP

2. INSTALLATION
----------------
You should read the rest of this README file to get further
information about this release before you do the installation.
From the DOS prompt select the drive containing the ACIRAN disk and
type install <return>.
Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
3. IMPORTANT NOTES
-------------------
o The executable and a number of other files are compressed. You cannot
just copy the files to your hard drive, you must run the install program.
o If at any time you wish to decompress a file manually, use the unpack.exe
program supplied. Files that are compressed end in a $.
o If you are running on a laptop or any other system that uses an LCD or
mono display, you should set Aciran to black and white mode.
You can do this from DOS with the following command line:
Aciran /m <cr>
o As mentioned in the installation section,if you are running from a single
drive then you should only copy the essential files required to run Aciran.
4. ADDITIONAL NOTES
--------------------
o Actran can handle POT's from ORCAD files by converting them into two fixed
resistors connected in series with the wiper coming from the common
connection. Both resistors are given values equal to one half of the POT
value, in other words as if the POT was set to it's mid position.
o Actran can handle tolerances so long as the Key field is set up correctly
in draft. You must leave at least on space between the fields eg.
V x
where V is the value, the referance is included, and x is the field that
contains the the tolerance value.
o There is an additional version of Aciran supplied on the disk. This
is TAC, (Tiny or Turbo Aciran). This version is fully
compatable with the larger program but by limitting the data structures
(node size) to within a single 64K boundrary the microprocessor does not
have to alter it's data segment register as often as it does in the larger
version and as a result the Turbo program runs four times faster. It is
recommened that TAC be used whenever possible as it will save
considerable time, especially when carrying out tolerance analysis.
o ACIRAN V3.6 was created using the Turbo Pascal Compiler (V5.5)
and as such it supports co-processor floating point format in both
Hardware and software Emulation. If your computer has a co-processor
it will be detected by ACIRAN and used to perform all calculations.
Should your machine not be fitted with a Maths chip then ACIRAN will
emulated the chip in software. This means that the program is fully
compatible with either hardware configuration. Obviously the program
will run much faster if the co-processor chip is fitted.
