ADJUST FORWARD FILES UTILITY DOCUMENTATION
This utility is to provide an easy method of manipulating multiple versions
of the Forward and Reverse Forward files associated with the WA7MBL BBS. If
your system is like mine, besides your Forward and Reverse file, you also
have several "Mini" files set up to force forwarding to a certain BBS or to
temporarily change paths, to go from VHF to HF operation etc.....
At any rate, when you start trying to make consistent changes across all of
these files, like needing to ADD an $xxxx to 3 or 4 stations, DELETE W0xxx
from one station or more or ADD $ALLxxx to all stations you forward to --
It turns out to be a real time consuming task. When you are done, it is also
very hard to know if you missed one or not.
If these troubles are yours, your woes are over! Now, this one program will
allow you to change (Add or Delete) up to 15 items from up to 15 BBS fields
across any or all of your Fwd and Rev files in one operation! As a by-product
of this operation, your files will be changed to all upper case if they were
not before and they will be sorted and arranged in the most logical and
efficient order possible for forwarding in the following format:
1. BBS callsign
2. !NTSxxx
3. NTSxxx
4. !zip
5. zip
6. !Callsigns
7. Callsigns
8. !$xxx
9. $xxx
NOTE: ALL PA COMMANDS, DOS CALLS OR ANY SECTION STARTING WITH OTHER THAN 'F',
'G' OR 'H' WILL ONLY BE CHANGED TO UPPER CASE AND WRITTEN AS IN THE ORIGINAL.
For the program to be able to recognize the FWD and REV files, they must all
have something in common that can be recognized with a global command. The
program is set to default on the system used here at WB0OIZ. Every version
of FWD file and my Reverse file start with the same two unique characters.
Thus, I have my two main files, F-.BBS and F-.REV. Then variations on the
main file are named similarly, such as:
F-KCMO.AEX
F-STD.AEX
F-KCMO.GGU
F-BSMWIN.ZLN
I use the 8 characters before the "." to denote the path and the 3 after to
denote the particular BBS or function of that file.
The names I use are only suggestions. Any system that allows a use of globals
to recognize any and all forward and reverse files will work. You may want
to use XXXXX.FWD to denote them. The program does not care. It goes strictly
by the callsign shown in the "Fx BBScall", "Hx BBScall" or "Gx BBScall" line.
To start the program, on the command line give the global that you are using
for all your files or use this feature to limit processing to one group or a
single file. For instance, if I just wanted to adjust only my Reverse file
(Although I see no good reason to do this), on the command line I would enter:
ADJFWD F-.REV
If I wanted to just adjust the files pertaining to one station, I will use
WB0AEX (Again....No good reason to do this is apparent since it leaves out
the reverse file), I would enter:
ADJFWD F-*.AEX
If I want to adjust all files where necessary, by far the best thing to do,
I would enter:
ADJFWD F-*.*
or, since that is the default global of the program, just simply "ADJFWD"
would work.
I hope you get some use out of this utility...It has become a much appreciated
tool around here. Let me know how it works for you.
