OCR: Galileo, launched in 1989, is expected to communicate information about Jupiter and its four biggest and brightest moons, Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa, until December 1997. Giotto, which was deactivated after encountering Halley's Comet in 1986, was reactivated again in 1992 for a close encounter with the comet Grigg-Skjellerup. It was later returned to a state of "hibernation," but could be reactivated again at a future date. Mariner 10, launched in 1973 to study Venus and Mercury, is still in orbit around the Sun, although contact with the probe was terminated in 1975. Magellan, launched in 1989 to map Venus with radar, made six complete surveys of the planet before being placed in a lower orbit.
