Perhaps it reduced risk by drinking at night, when day-active predators slept, or maybe it relied on nearby horned dinosaurs to bellow a warning. Horned dinosaurs tended to wander in herds. As with zebras or wildebeest, while most members of a herd had their heads down drinking or eating there would always be a few individuals watching for danger.
