OCR: OWLS FEATHERY TUFT CAN POSITION OF BE RAISED OR LOWERED EAR OPENING Ears and Ear Tufts O WLS HAVE EXCEPTIONAL hearing, and some can hunt with the aid of hearing alone. Their flat face helps funnel sounds into their ear openings, which are hidden by feathers on either side of the head. The two openings are often different in size and shape. By turning its head from side to 5 side, the owl is able to pinpoint the vertical position of its prey. Some owls have feathery ear tufts that look like ears, but are merely tufts of head feathers.
