OCR: CONTACT CALLS Contact calls carry one of the simplest and most important messages used by birds. Roughly translated, they mean "I am here - where are you?" Young birds use contact calls to tell their parents where they are and to beg for food. Adult birds call to keep in touch with their partners, or to stay together when moving as a group.
