"WHAT IS QUIZ MASTER: " " " "Quiz Master Construction Set PC is a test producing type of software" "that can be used on-line for self-testing or in a computer lab with" "students. It can also produce hard copies of a quiz to be used in a" "classroom. " " " "There are three sample quiz files on the disk. GEOGRAPH is a sample" "geography quiz. CIVILW is a sample American Civil War quiz. CALDMV" "is a sample California DMV quiz. " " " "REQUIREMENTS: " " " "IBM PC/XT/AT/PS2 or any MS DOS compatible computer. " " " "Quiz Master Construction Set PC (hereafter called QuizMaster) will" "run on any color or monochrome monitor. The program is set to 80" "screen columns. " " " "LOADING: " " " "The program is NOT copy protected and is not CRIPPLE WARE. If you" "have a hard disk you may create a directory and copy the contents of" "the floppy disk to that directory. " " " "To load the program, type in the name 'QUIZ50'. When the program" "has loaded, you will be presented with a screen of drop-down menus." "Across the top are the names FILE, QUIZ, PRINT & QUIT. In all cases," "a line across the bottom of the screen will indicate the instructions" "for that MENU ITEM. " " " " FILE " " " "The FILE menu contains three sub-menus, NEW QUIZ, OLD QUIZ, SAVE and" "EXIT. Use the ARROW KEYS to move across the MAIN MENU, and up and" "down the SUB MENUS. " " " "NEW QUIZ " " " "The NEW QUIZ sub-menu is used to create a NEW QUIZ. Press ENTER to" "select this option if you are going to create a NEW QUIZ. A box will" "open up toward the bottom of the screen allowing you to enter the" "name of the QUIZ. You will only have eight characters for the name so" "make it unique but also understandable. After you have completed the" "name of the NEW QUIZ, press ENTER and a message to the left of the" "screen will be displayed showing you the name of the NEW QUIZ. When" "you go over to the QUIZ Main Menu, then you will select CREATE to" "begin inputting your questions and answers. " " " "If you do not want to CREATE a NEW QUIZ, simply press ENTER without" "entering the name of the QUIZ and the box will clear and it will be" "as though you did nothing. " " " "OLD QUIZ " " " "Select this sub-menu option if you are going to add to an existing" "QUIZ or to take the TEST. " " " "When you press ENTER, a box will open up to the left of the screen" "displaying the names of all the QUIZZES that are on the disk. Use the" "ARROW KEYS and then press ENTER to select the QUIZ you wish to see. " " " "When you go over to the QUIZ on the MAIN MENU line, you will select" "ADD, EDIT or TEST. " " " "SAVE " " " "The SAVE sub-menu is used to save a newly CREATED QUIZ or an OLD" "QUIZ that you have been working on. Use this option if you forgot to" "SAVE the QUIZ when you were working on the CREATE or EDIT SCREEN. " " " "EXIT " " " "Use this sub-menu to EXIT out of the FILE MENU. Or, you may press" "ESCAPE at any time to clear the FILE sub-menu. " " " " QUIZ " " " "CREATE " " " "Use this sub-menu option to CREATE your NEW QUIZ. You must have" "selected a name of the QUIZ under the FILE MAIN MENU first. If you" " fail to do so, a message will be flashed at the bottom of the scree" "indicating that you must first select a quiz file. " " " "NOTE: DOUBLE QUOTE MARKS will corrupt the file, therefore the" "program converts double quote marks to single quote marks. " " " "Type in the questions. You will have 180 characters for your" "question, divided into three 60 character lines. Each answer has up" "to 120 characters, divided into two 60 character lines. Lastly, type" "in the correct number that corresponds to the answer. " " " "The 'Record Number' will indicate how many questions you have in the" "QUIZ FILE. There is a maximum of 200 per file. " " " "To continue on to the next question (after you have reviewed your" "work and can see no typing errors, etc.), type in a 'C'. If you" "notice anything amiss, type in an 'E' and you will be able to edit" "the question or any of the answers or correct number. " " " "When you have finished, and you want to SAVE your work, type in an" "'S'. Or, type in an 'E' to return to the MAIN MENU without SAVING." "If you do this, you will still be able to SAVE your work by going" "over to the FILE menu and selecting SAVE. " " " "ADD " " " "Use this sub-menu option to ADD to an existing OLD QUIZ. If you have" "failed to select an OLD QUIZ under the FILE MAIN MENU, you will re-" "ceive the message at the bottom of the screen indicating that you" "must first select a quiz file. " " " "This screen acts just like the CREATE SCREEN but positions you at the" "last question and then you can add to your existing OLD QUIZ. " " " "EDIT " " " "Use this sub-menu option to EDIT an existing OLD QUIZ. If you have" "failed to select an OLD QUIZ under the FILE MAIN MENU, you will re-" "ceive the message at the bottom of the screen indicating that you" "must first select a quiz file. " " " "Your QUIZ will load and position you at the first record. " " " "You may scroll 'F'orward or 'B'ackward through your QUIZ and make any" "corrections that you need. The bottom of the screen will give you" "the options you need for EDITING your QUIZ. " " " "To EDIT one of the questions, you must type the entire question over" "again. The same rule applies to the answers. " " " "To delete a question, type in a 'D'. The way that the program works," "is that the correct answer will be replaced by an 'X'. The program " "knows that when it writes the QUIZ to disk, to ignore those questions" "with an 'X' in that position. If you delete a question and you have" "not SAVED your QUIZ, you can change your mind by scrolling back to" "the question and replacing the correct answer position by a 1, 2, 3" "or 4. " " " "When you have finished, type in an 'S' to save your work, or if you" "forget, you may still SAVE it when you go to the FILE MENU and choose" "SAVE. " " " "TEST " " " "This sub-menu item will be used to TAKE A TEST. A sub-menu of this" "sub-menu will appear to allow you the choice of having the correct" "answer displayed if you choose incorrectly. If you have failed to" "select an OLD QUIZ under the FILE MENU, you will receive the message" "to that effect at the bottom of the screen. " " " "EXIT " " " "You may select this option to exit out of the QUIZ sub-menu. At all" "times, you may press ESCAPE and the QUIZ sub-menu will clear. " " " " PRINT " " " "After you have selected an OLD QUIZ, you may choose to print your" "quiz five different ways. " " " "ALL SEQUENTIALLY " " " "Choose this sub-menu item to print all questions and answers. You" "will be prompted to type in the title of the quiz. If you have not" "selected an OLD QUIZ, a message will indicate this. " " " "LIMIT SEQUENTIALLY " " " "If you want to print only a selected number sequentially, choose this" "option. You will be prompted for the number of questions and the" "the title of the QUIZ. If you have failed to select an OLD QUIZ, the" "message will appear indicating this. " " " "ALL RANDOMLY " " " "Choose this item if you want the entire QUIZ but printed in RANDOM" "order. You will be prompted for the title of the QUIZ. Again, if" "you have forgotten to select an OLD QUIZ, a message will appear" "indicating this. " " " "LIMIT RANDOMLY " " " "If you want your QUIZ printed RANDOMLY but only a selected number," "choose this option. You will be prompted for the number and title of" "your QUIZ. " " " "KEY OF THE QUIZ " " " "If you want to print the KEY OF THE QUIZ, select this option and your" "entire QUIZ with the correct answers will be printed.
