The use of and admiration for our
magic bulb goes back in time to before
our recorded history. In the earliest
Sanskrit writings, garlic is also
mentioned. Babylonians knew of the
curative powers as early as 3000 BC.
Reports have it that is was found
growing in the gardens of the King of
Babylon in the eighth century before
Christ! In Egypt, it was freely used
and was highly honored. Thousands of
slaves working on the great pyramid of
Cheops were fed garlic daily to
sustain strength and endurance. In
fact, the slaves refused to work when
their daily ration was withheld. Now
that's what you can call a real garlic
lover.

There is even a story that the
Egyptians swore on a clove of garlic
when they took a solemn oath.
And their high priests were forbidden
to eat garlic. I have read stories
that it was found in the tomb of King
Tutankhamen. It certainly appears in
many of the hieroglyphic writings and
was no stranger to Egyptians.

The Codex Ebers, a medical
papyrus dating back to 1550 B.C.
mentions garlic for a variety of
ailments, including headaches, heart
problems, body weakness,
human bites, worms,
throat tumors, and
problems of
childbirth
