5. How to Get Tech Support
Technical support for registered WED users is available through
several means. The EdTech phone is usually answered by an
answering machine. If you leave your name, number and a time that
you can be reached, someone will usually return your call either
later that day or the next. Email support is also available.
EdTech can be reached through CompuServe by sending mail to
72775,353. This CompuServe Account also can receive mail from MCI
mail and from the InterNet. Please contact those organizations
about how to send mail to CompuServe. Finally you may write a
letter and we will respond to it as quickly as possible. In order
to speed the processing of your letter please label the outside
of the envelope with ATTN: WED Tech Support and include any phone
or fax numbers that may be important.
6. Last Minute Changes or Corrections
The eXecute and Dos functions have recently been enhanced to
automatically support swapping to XMS or EMS memory if available.
If not available WED will still swap to disk. WED requires about
200K of space to swap out. WED now leaves only 768 bytes in DOS
memory when swapped out.
WED can edit files that are larger than memory. To do this WED
must have some additional disk space. The disk that WED creates
its temporary file on must have enough free space available for
WED to copy the file being edited. WED defaults to using the
current disk for its temporary file. This can be changed by
selecting the SWAP FILE item from the setup menu and entering the
new drive and directory for the temporary file.
WARNING: WED may not be able to gracefully recover when an error
occurs while writing to the temporary swap file. This is rare and
normally only happens when there is insufficient disk space for
the swap file. We expect to have this problem solved for the next
release.
The APPEND command seems to have problems appending files with
multiple terminating control-Z characters. If a file that you
want to append has this problem, it can be appended by using the
following procedure:
Using OTHER <ALT-O> from the edit menu to open the file that you
want to append. Return to the first window then using the BRIDGE
<ALT-B> option bridge from TOP to BOTTOM. Now return to the OTHER
window and QUIT and ABANDON.
WED's function keys default to the following settings.
F-Key Setting Action
------ ------- ------------
F1 <Alt-G>T Go to top of file.
F2 <Alt-G>B Go to bottom of file.
F3 <Alt-E><End><Alt-E> Erase to end of line.
F4 <Home><Alt-E><End><Alt-E> Erase the current line.
F5 <Alt-P>1 Set pointer 1
F6 <Alt-P>2 Set pointer 2
F7 <Alt-C>12 Copies text between P1 & P2.
F8 <Alt-M>12 Moves text between P1 & P2.
F9 Not Programmed.
F10 <Alt-Q>K Quit WED and Keep changes.
These may all be changed with Setup Macro Keys. None of the other
function keys have been programmed.
