  18. HOLLYWOOD - The life story of a former U.S. government
  19. scientist who claims he worked on a top-secret project
  20. examining captured UFOs will be turned into a film for the
  21. big screen.

  23. New Line Cinema said it put the project on an earthly fast
  24. track for director Chuck Russell ("A Nightmare on Elm
  25. Street III") and will start shooting in the fall or early
  26. 1994.

  28. New Line finalized the deal for the film after the
  29. scientist, Bob Lazar, considered competing offers from
  30. producer Steve Tisch, Simpson-Bruckheimer Productions
  31. and actor Steven Seagal, said Michael De Luca, New Line's
  32. CEO.

  34. "Bob Lazar was confident that New Line wouldn't take his
  35. story and turn it into a cartoon. What makes his story
  36. intriguing, thrilling and ultimately disturbing is the
  37. evidence suggesting that government-sponsored research
  38. on UFOs actually did occur."

  40. Lazar, a nuclear physicist, said that in 1979 he was among
  41. a team of scientists recruited by Naval Intelligence to
  42. conduct secret "black engineering" research on UFOs
  43. the government captured and stored in the desert.
