  2. ALARMING INCREASE IN UFO SIGHTINGS                                     09/02/96

  7. UFO sightings around Tamworth have increased alarmingly in the last year
  8. according to a report by the Birmingham UFO society.
  9.  
  10. The report, released last week, said before 1995 there has only been one
  11. sighting of a UFO near Tamworth in the last 20 years - of a hooped shaped
  12. object, about 8 inches in circumference, which disappeared after a few seconds.

  16. But there have been three sightings since mid-1995 within a few miles of the
  17. town.

  19. The society's report said in September, a large ball of light was seen by a
  20. Miss S. and two others in Amington.

  22. The ball descended and witnesses saw a triangular object, slightly higher than
  23. a lamp-post, with three lights on each corner and two across the middle.

  25. It made no noise and seemed to move towards them before shooting off.

  29. Also in September, a Mr N. in Riverside, Tamworth was watching jets through
  30. binoculars on a clear morning, when he saw a small silver disk hovering above a
  31. Boeing 757.

  33. The disk remained stationary while the plane passed by, then after three
  34. minutes it accelerated away.

  36. White Beam

  38. Finally an object with lights on, emitting a white beam, was seen in November
  39. near junction 7 of the M42 travelling very fast.
