  2. WATCHERS BAFFLES BY LIGHT IN SKY                                       09/02/96

  4. This is how the Derby Evening Telegraph reported on the many sightings of the
  5. unexplained object above the city on Thur 8th Feb. They led with a picture on
  6. the front page that was taken by the papers photographer and a sub heading - Is
  7. this a UFO over Derby ?

  9. Friday, Feb 9th.

  11. Derby people were baffled by a mysterious light last night.
  12.  
  13. The first sighting was reported to Derby police at 5:50pm by a man in Winmill
  14. Hill Lane.
  15.  
  16. June Kerry (65), was visiting Richard Milner (74) in Havenbaulk Lane,
  17. Littleover, and they both saw the light for more than an hour in the direction
  18. of Toyota's Burnaston plant from 6:45pm. Mrs Kerry said it seemed to be about
  19. 10 miles away and added: "It was like a large star with a smaller version
  20. underneath. But it wasn't a star. Through binoculars it looked like a
  21. mushroom."

  23. Andrew Fairweather (66), of NewZealand Lane, Duffield, said "It was a bright
  24. light, low in thee sky. It seemed to be flickering but not moving."

  26. It was also spotted by our photographer Barbara Evripidou later last night.

  28. She said: "I was in Oakwood, driving up Mansfield Road.  I looked west over the
  29. sewage works and saw a light hanging there. I thought it might of been a star.
  30. It was there for about 10 minutes."

  32. An East Midlands Airport spokesman said there was no air traffic to explain the
  33. sightings.
