  7. PHANTOM hitch-hikers, sonic booms and strange lights in the sky are just some
  8. of the cases that have kept the Anomaly Invesigation Association busy in the
  9. last few months.

  11. But one problem that often hinders the AIA's exhaustive investigations is the
  12. reluctance of many witnesses to put their name to their experiences.
  13.  
  14. AIA co-ordinator Jeffrey Ellington, pictured left, explained: "People are
  15. willing to talk over the phone, but usually reluctant to fill in a report form
  16. or put their signiture against any statement,
  17.  
  18. "This means we can't include their reports in our files, as we are usually
  19. unable to clean all the information a face-to-face interview would give us. In
  20. spite of the interest in UFOs, there's still a stigma attached to reporting
  21. one.

  23. "That's probably because people think that if you say you've seen a UFO, you
  24. mean a spacecraft being flown by little green aliens.
  25.  
  26. "What you're really saying is that you've seen a flying object you cannot
  27. identify.
  28.  
  29. "There's nothing strange about that. But we should stress that we treat every
  30. case confidentially unless the witness doesn't mind us circulating their
  31. details."
