  17. As you mentioned, weapons and counter-weapons are by nature expensive to 
  18. design.  However, as you also mentioned, much of the public's growing... 
  19. distaste... for military spending results from the misuse and/or 
  20. inefficient use of said devices as ordered by people who do not fully 
  21. understand the situation.

  23. Many people did not see the point of building a practical anti-missile 
  24. system for the type of SCUD rockets used in the Iraq conflict until 
  25. journalists showed how effective these weapons can be.  The persian gulf 
  26. war was not only a theater for the US to show the world the effectiveness 
  27. of its weapons, but was, more importantly, a theater to show the american 
  28. citizenery the effectiveness of the weapon research programs that suck 
  29. off much of thier tax contributions.

  31. While it is true that certain research firms, and certain 
  32. weapons-construction facilities DO spend in useless ways, (ie. the 
  33. spending of approximately 5 mil to find white, blue and red paint with 
  34. which to place the USAF logo oon the Stealth fighter...) this is usually 
  35. at the request of incompetents (in this case the general overseeing the 
  36. project...).

  38. Without government weapons research we wouldn't have Satalite TV, 
  39. plastics, or even the Internet!!
