- Ah, me, doesn't anyone read books any more?
-
- Yes, it would take more than 4.5 years to reach AC.
- But, not from the point of view of the ship.
-
- You accelerate to 3/4 lightspeed, everything onboard the ship
- slows down and gets heavier, that's what makes it impossible
- to accelerate to lightspeed in the first place. The point is,
- however, that if you've been slowed down, (Time dilation)
- it looks to you as if the universe outside has sped up.
- So the ten year journey across 4.5 light years, from the
- ship's point of view, only takes a month. Or whatever.
-
- You have to go damn fast to get this effect to be noticable,
- but it has been experimentally verified.
