System DirectX Control Panel A DirectX utility you can't boot without! Remember Alex St. John's column about broken DirectX drivers? Well, DirectX 5 ships with a little control panel utility that lets you know who's at fault when your games crash and what features and video modes your hardware support. The utility even allows you to uninstall the new DirectX drivers if you've determined they've screwed up your system. Just above the DirectX minimal install is a slightly larger version of DirectX that includes this new utility. All hardcore gamers are strongly advised to install this utility along with DirectX 5.0. This applet doesn't ship with the minimal DirectX install, but we've included it on this month's bootDisc. Or, you can download the file (idx5sdkm.exe) directly from www.microsoft.directx.com. utils\system\dxcontrl\setup.exe Win 95 http://www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp For Win95. Requirements: DirectX 5.0. If you're experiencing game crashes, fire up this control panel applet, and disable HW acceleration in D3D, and DirectDraw. If you're still having problems when this is done, then the problem you're encountering is likely related to a Microsoft or game bug. If the problem goes away, then you can blame it on a busted driver. From Microsoft Corporation.

Utilities bootDisc 13 Patch In staying on the cutting edge, we included support for MMX CPUs starting with bootDisc 13. Unfortunately, some CPUs (Cyrix non-MMX CPUs primarily) report back to our interface program that they are MMX when they aren't. The typical error received when this happens begins with 'An Invalid Expression error in module DIRMMX.X32'. This crashes the bootDisc, not only preventing you from using it, but from regestering for the coveted Dream Machine. A patch is now available allowing you to run bootDisc 13. We apologize for the delay as we were not prepared for the onslought of mail nor the amount of work it took to prepare the patch. We are adjusting our codebase for quicker patches in the future should the need ever arise again. utils\utility\bootptch.13\13patch.exe Win 95 http://www.bootnet.com/ NOTE: If you still experience problems, please fill out the CD-ROM Interface Support Form located on our website at www.bootnet.com, leaving detailed information explaining why you still cannot access the disc. We will have a patch soon for those that are unable to access bootDisc 14. Please sit tight and check back at our website (www.bootnet.com) soon...
