Gaining access to a FileStore

  If you forget your SYST password, or are otherwise locked out of the server, you will be pleased to know that is isn't overly secure.

Here are two methods that you can try:

• Insert a floppy disc that is formatted and contains a null Password file with only SYST on it (no password) and log into that disc.

• If you have no disc, switch on the server with the front door open so that it enters maintenance mode. Log onto the server using the FSUser name (normally SYST). Your network name should change to the station number of the server prefixed with an exclamation mark (ie: !254). Format a disc for a blank Passwords file to log in as above.

  If there is sufficient call for it, I may write a utility to create blank FileStore format files under RiscOS. It is much quicker to pop a disc into adfs::0 than muck around trying to talk to the server! Email me if you would like a utility like this.
