Day 007 - 06 Jul 94 - Page 03
1 Q. Tell us in outline what is the nature of Perseco's
business?
2 A. Perseco was established to do packaging design,
purchasing and distribution to the McDonald's distribution
3 centres. We are dedicated to McDonald's, yet McDonald's
has no ownership in Perseco. Perseco is privately owned
4 and we do serve exclusively McDonald's.
5 Q. Is Perseco part of a larger group of companies?
A. We are. The parent company is named Havi.
6
Q. Is there any connection or link between Havi and
7 McDonald's you know of?
A. Not that I know of, no.
8
Q. I meant in terms of ownership?
9 A. That is what I assumed. No ownership rights in
McDonald's or Havi either.
10
Q. When you say Perseco is dedicated to McDonald's, does that
11 mean Perseco does not have any other customers?
A. We have no other customers, no, only McDonald's.
12
Q. As a matter of history, do you know how long Perseco has
13 had that relationship with McDonald's?
A. Since approximately 1975.
14
Q. Does Perseco own any manufacturing operations of its own?
15 A. We certainly do not.
16 Q. How then does it source McDonald's packaging requirements?
A. We speak with our purchase products from the leading
17 manufacturers in the packaging industry, either paper or
plastics suppliers, and being that we have no interest in
18 any other packaging industry, we hold ourselves as
material neutral and feel we will by that right give a
19 very objective evaluation of any packaging or any
packaging material.
20
Q. Does Perseco have a written contract with McDonald's?
21 A. We have no written contract with McDonald's
whatsoever.
22
Q. So far as you are aware, has Perseco ever had a written
23 contract with McDonald's?
A. Not to my knowledge, no, sir.
24
Q. Let me ask you this question: Do you know Mr. Robert
25 Langert, the director of environmental affairs at
McDonald's?
26 A. Yes, sir.
27 Q. Is that the person or the department with whom you chiefly
deal at McDonald's?
28 A. Yes, most of the activities I do are co-ordinated for
service to Bob Langert.
29
Q. Is it right Mr. Langert went from Perseco to McDonald's?
30 A. Yes. In 1981, when I assumed the role of
environmental affairs manager, it was due to a vacancy
