Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 08

       that right, Mr. Van Erp?
       A. Yes, it is.

  Q. Can I ask you to take your statement that you made for
these proceedings and turn to the first appendix to it
which is CVE 1 which I should find behind your statement?
       A. Yes.

  Q. I think you have told us in your statement that this is a
brief summary of the material used by McDonald's for
       packaging during 1991?
       A. Yes, it is.

  Q. Is that right? We see you divided it up as a summary for
the whole of Europe into paper products and plastic
       products; is that right?
       A. Yes, it is.

  Q. Only say "yes" because it has to be recorded through that
       microphone?
       A. Sorry, yes.

  Q. Then there is a small category of "other" at the bottom
which actually does not succeed in scoring any percentage
points. I will ignore that, if I may. Am I right in
thinking that the paper products, those which originate
with trees, formed in 1991 something like 76 per cent of
       the total?
       A. Yes, that is correct.

  Q. And polystyrene alone was 21 per cent?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Can I ask you a word about polystyrene foam? As you may or
may not be aware, there is an issue or a question, if you
like, in this court how far post-consumer polystyrene foam
waste is recycled on behalf of McDonald's or their
suppliers. Were you aware of that?
       A. I was aware that there was a question on that, yes.

  Q. Do you have any knowledge of the state of post-consumer
polystyrene foam recycling in Europe at large?
       A. Within McDonald's or?

  Q. Or generally?
       A. In general, that is very low.

  Q. Very low?
       A. Yes. Post-consumer recycling of polystyrene, to my
knowledge, is quite low, quite low developed.

  Q. Do you know the firm called "Lin Pac" in this country?
       A. Yes, I do. That is one of our suppliers.

  Q. Do you know that they have a recycling facility?
       A. They were the first ones to open a post-consumer
       recycling facility in 1992.

  Q. The first ones in this country, in Europe?
       A. In Europe, to my understanding.
