Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 13
do they get from them, do you know?
A. They will either get them from the supplier, the same
supplier, that the UK use, i.e. Burrows in the Netherlands
or they will use them from Schisler in France.

Q. Schisler in France?
A. Yes.

Q. You will notice also in the second column, at the top of
the second column -- they are done alphabetically, so it is
easy to follow -- Sweden also uses paperboard. Moving from
that, I want to ask you, in particular, about Turkey. This
document dated 3rd February 1994 says that the Turks use
wraps but HCFC-22 blown polystyrene foam for the Big Mac.
Do you happen to know what the present position is in
Turkey?
A. They have since, by coincidence I think, in February
they switched over to use a new machine and now are fully
converted to hydrocarbons.

Q. Hydrocarbons, like the rest of those who use polystyrene
foam in Europe?
A. Yes.

Q. Do you know reason why the Turks were using HCFC-22 up
until at any rate February 1994?
A. Part of the reason was that because of safety standards
it was difficult for them to switch hydrocarbons or
flammable HCFCs, so it is more dangerous to use. You have
to have higher safety standards. Secondly, to my
understanding, is at that point in time they just did not
have the technology for it.

Q. I was going to ask you this: Do you know how they acquired
the technology?
A. I know that they have been talking with Lin Pac, the
supplier in the UK. I have not been involved in those
talks, so I do not know exactly how far they went.

Q. Thank you. Sorry about that short excursion. Can you put
that file away now, please? Can I ask you to look at two
documents that you have produced for us and we got
yesterday in court? You should, I hope, have with you ---
A. Yes, I have.

Q. -- a small bundle of photocopies, including two that look
like that?
A. Yes.

Q. Do you have those?
A. Yes.

Q. Can we look at the big one first -- I say "the big one",
the one with the dark shading on it?
A. Yes.

Q. First of all, can I ask you, it is dated 3rd January 1991.
It is headed: "Composition of 'top colour' recycled
paperboard material, Manufactured by Mayr Melnhof Karton of
Austria". Can I ask you who made this document?
