Day 071 - 11 Jan 95 - Page 16

       A. I believe I discussed at my weekly managers' meeting
and just reinforced the fact that we had to complete these
trash walks, and I still believe from that meeting that
       they were being completed.

  Q. So, if the impression being given by this sentence were the
trash walks were not being done unless the residents asked
you to do them, would that be a true or a false impression?
       A. I would say it was a false impression.

  Q. He goes on -- I think it is a he -- I think it is
       Dr. Taylor, is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "We find it difficult to understand why a company of your
size and expertise finds it difficult to organise to pick
up your customers' dropped environment/index.html">litter on a regular basis".
Again I ask you -- again the answer may be obvious -- had
you found it difficult to organise to pick up your
customers' dropped environment/index.html">litter on a regular basis?
       A. We encountered some problems.

  Q. What were those problems at this time?
       A. Some of the problems were that it was the busiest time
of the year so they were coming towards the end of summer,
and also a lot of the houses in the surrounding area had
basements and which had to go down a flight of steps to
       reach the basement.

  Q. What we call an "area"?
       A. Yes, and the problem was that the crew members
completing the trash walks found they were having
complaints from local residents about the fact that they
were coming down their steps and disturbing them in their
       houses.

  Q. You mean the people who lived in the basements did not like
       it?
       A. Well, they saw people walking past their windows and
they were worried about who this was, and also a lot of the
basement gates were locked as well so we could not get into
       those basements.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But you would be going on to private property
if you went through the railings and down, would you not?
       A. Yes, we would.

MR. RAMPTON: Are there any gardens or other areas within this
neighbourhood which are private property with sort of
railings which you can throw a piece of environment/index.html">litter over if you
       want?
       A. Yes, in the Square, on Wellington Square, the houses
surround the Square and in the centre of the Square there
is a private garden which is railed off.

  Q. Is it locked?
       A. I believe so, it is locked, yes.

  Q. Do you see on that map, while you have it out, just south
of St. Leonard's Terrace, an area called Burton Court, I
