Day 096 - 03 Mar 95 - Page 08

       outside?
       A. There are no -- there are two quite different things.
All the contract farms are Freedom Food approved. So, as
the pigs cycle round, we can actually put at any time any
of our Freedom Food weaners into any of those farms, right?
But there can be either/or at different times because
they go in batches. There are about 12 or 13 weeks, and we
can have, say, a Freedom Food batch go to a farm and the
next batch will be a commercial batch that go to a farm.

  Q. What you mean, if they are kept under Freedom Food
conditions on those farms then they will be Freedom Food
       approved ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- is that right? Ones which are not kept on farms under
Freedom Food conditions would not be?
       A. Irrespective of if they are Freedom Food pigs or
commercial pigs, all the finishing units are to the Freedom
       Food's approved standard.

MS. STEEL: You mean each farm would have facilities that would
be approved under the Freedom Food system -----
       A. They are approved.

  Q. Yes, but the indoor part would not be, would it?
       A. Not our own indoor pigs -- our indoor sows are not.

  Q. No, all the indoor parts of the other farms that you
       contract out to?
       A. They are all Freedom Food approved.

  Q. If they raise the pigs indoors, though, they would not be
       Freedom?
       A. They do not raise the pigs indoors. They are the
contract farmers. We supply the weaners to them.
I explained when I was here previously. We supply the
weaner pigs, to them and they finish the pigs in those
farms, which are contract farmers, and all of those farms
are Freedom Food approved. That is quite simple.

  Q. But the meat that was produced on those farms would not
       automatically be Freedom Food approved?
       A. No, they can be either/or.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The farms are Freedom Food approved so that
if you put them through the Freedom Food system on that
farm, rather than the commercial system, if I can call it
that, on that farm, they will be Freedom Food pork?
       A. Correct.

  Q. Or whatever?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: On top of the 100,000 pigs, you buy pigs from
elsewhere at markets and things like that?
       A. No, we do not buy one pig at market.

  Q. You do buy other pigs from elsewhere, though, from
       slaughtering?
