Day 101 - 10 Mar 95 - Page 03

  Q. Was Jill Barnes involved?
       A. I believe that Jill was involved as well, yes.

  Q. Have you seen the results of that investigation?
       A. I do not think -- I was not party to the investigation.
I have not read a sort of finished document from
McDonald's saying: "This is what the results of the
       investigation were."

  Q. Were there any finished results, do you know?
       A. I was not really involved with it, I am sorry, it is
       difficult for me to comment.

  Q. Are you involved in other investigations into food
       poisoning incidents?

MR. RAMPTON: "Incidents"? Which incidents. There is only one
in this country that has been pleaded.

  MS. STEEL: Investigations.
       A. Into allegations of food poisoning?

  Q. Yes.
       A. I would be involved, yes. It would be a multi-purpose
team, really, that would be involved in the investigation,
but certainly myself or somebody else from the Quality
Assurance Department would be involved, yes.

  Q. Do you not need to know the findings of other
investigations to help you with future investigation?
       A. Sorry, I do not understand the question.

  Q. Would it not have been helpful for you to have found out a
bit about the Preston incident before you started
       investigating another incident?
       A. I have found out a bit about the Preston incident, but
as I said, I was not involved in the investigation of it.

  Q. You have not read any report or conclusion by the company
       about -----
       A. I have not read any report or conclusion, no.

  Q. You had not even heard of the Oregon one, the Oregon
       outbreak?
       A. That is right.

  Q. So is there no kind of coherent strategy for looking at
this problem area and seeing if there is a common thread or
       anything like that?
       A. Which area are you referring to, sorry?

  Q. The area of complaints about food poisoning and the problem
area of the risk of food poisoning?
       A. Well, we obviously take the risk of food poisoning
extremely seriously, and there is a coherent effort. There
is a distinct Quality Assurance programme throughout
production and production of raw materials, distribution of
finished products and further cooking, handling of those
finished products. Those are the controls that we have in
