Day 101 - 10 Mar 95 - Page 38
A. Not at all.

Q. Not any of the contract farmers?
A. Not as far as I am aware. I know they offer a service
to the farms to which they supply the fertilizer as to how
much they use, if we are talking about the environment, as
an additional protection of the environment.

Q. You do not keep a close check on it?
A. No, we do not keep a close check.

Q. You just ask them what they do?
A. We are aware what they do, yes. We would talk to them
about it. They would make us aware of it but we do not
monitor it, no.

Q. Do you monitor what happens to all the waste from the cows
that are reared to be turned into McDonald's burgers?
A. No.

Q. You do not?
A. No. We monitor our suppliers and our suppliers do not
have any live cattle.

Q. So, in terms of monitoring manure from cows, your suppliers
do not even do that?
A. They may well do. I am not aware of any monitoring
they do towards it, though.

Q. It is not something you have asked them about?
A. No.

Q. What about social policies? I am not sure what that refers
to.

MR. RAMPTON: I am not sure that social policies have anything
to do with Mr. Kenny, my Lord.

MS. STEEL: Can you tell us what social policies means?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know what social means there?
A. I did not actually write this.

Q. That is why you are being asked if you know what it means
which would not be more specifically included in
environmental, animal welfare and agro-chemical?
A. I would not like to hazard a guess.

MS. STEEL: What about the animal welfare policies of
suppliers?
A. Sorry, is that a question?

Q. Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: What is the question?

MS. STEEL: What monitoring do you do of your suppliers on
welfare policies?
A. OK. For instance, in the beef side of things, if we
take McKey's first, they have a department, they have one
