Day 101 - 10 Mar 95 - Page 42
Q. It is never something that has been discussed then at
McDonald's so far as you are aware of it?
A. It would not come to my ears. I would not expect it
was discussed, no, so I cannot answer that question.

Q. It is your department?
A. Well, it is a department that I work in but we would
not make those sorts of decisions.

Q. Who would make those decisions then?
A. Those decisions would probably be made at a board level
which would be someone of the position of, perhaps, Ed
Oakley.

Q. But would they not ask the advice of your department or
Mrs. Crawford?
A. Possibly, yes.

Q. You yourself are fairly senior?
A. Thanks. Possibly, yes.

Q. They have never asked your opinion about that?
A. No. I have never heard any discussion of employing
someone specific to look after animal welfare.

MR. MORRIS: When you made your visit to Sun Valley, say, your
comprehensive visit that looked at all the different parts,
the most recent ones, you saw the whole part of the process
you said?
A. On my most recent visit, yes.

Q. So how long were you there for about, approximately how
many hours?
A. A day and a half.

Q. A day and a half. When was that?
A. It would have been before Christmas, maybe September,
October.

Q. Was this when you were preparing for the case? Was it a
part of it to check out what was going on?
A. It was a visit I would have done normally, but I took
the opportunity to prepare for the case of course.

Q. Well, how long would a visit normally take to Sun Valley?
A. A day and a half probably. It is about the usual
length of time.

Q. Were there various meetings with various senior personnel
to discuss policy matters and all that kind of stuff?
A. Yes. We will always have meetings with the technical
people and put to them specific questions. Quite often
I would also speak to Dr. Pattison. It depends, if there
was a specific reason for the visit, if there was a quality
problem that we wanted to improve on, then obviously a lot
more time would be spent on the production line trying to
sort that out.

Q. So normally what is the percentage of discussions with
officials, if you like, to actually seeing the production
