Day 103 - 14 Mar 95 - Page 14
the bags to shoo the chickens away -- it appeared that when
they started doing that it was before the first module was
brought in?
A. Yes.

Q. But perhaps one could not be certain about that; it is the
picture I got.
A. Yes.

Q. Would the space they were able to make be fairly typical or
not of a Sun Valley house?
A. Yes, it would. I mean, it actually shows how much
potential space there is available to move and that is why
I do not accept that last comment.

MS. STEEL: Can I just ask to show a section of that video
again? It was at the beginning. It is only for about a
minute and a half. Also, is it possible to use the big one
just to see whether it does work? It will not be stopped
and started so I do not know ......

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I will do is, if Mrs. Brinley-Codd does
not mind, we will have the five-minute break now. Since
the break is, essentially, for Miss Foot, she need not
record anything one I have gone but you can get organised
to be at the beginning of the bit of film you want for when
we resume.

MS. STEEL: It is actually at the right place as it happens
anyway.

(Short Adjournment)

(The witness left the witness box)

(The video recording was shown)

MS. STEEL: If you could stop there, please?

(The witness returned to the witness box)

MS. STEEL: The stocking density in the first of those shots
would not be unusual for Sun Valley, would it?
A. That was a fairly typical picture of a house.

Q. And the conditions that the chickens were in, the following
shots would not be unusual for Sun Valley chickens, would
it?
A. Those were fairly typical shots.

Q. Including the one with the chicken that was barely
breathing in the final shot?
A. Well, it was obviously a sick chicken, so that had been
specifically focused on.

Q. Yes, but it would not be unusual to see chickens like that
in sheds at Sun Valley?
A. It would not be unusual to have chickens dying of
something in every shed on every day.
