Day 110 - 29 Mar 95 - Page 15
MR. MORRIS: It is not really, with respect, surprising it is
going to take some time, because this is our first witness.
He is responding not specifically to a McDonald's
witnesses, but McDonald's witnesses have made a great deal
of opinion and evidence about animals, cattle and pigs. It
is only right that we should not be under pressure to
curtail our -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not putting you under pressure. I am
trying to get an estimate.

MR. MORRIS: I would have thought a day is likely to be the
minimum and hopefully, finished quite soon after that. If
Mr. Rampton does not wish to cross-examine, that is his
choice. That will save us all time, of course.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What about Mr. Tyler?

MR. MORRIS: Andrew Tyler is, I think from memory -- again, we
have not had a chance to sit down and go through his
evidence yet -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you just look at his statement, he
interviewed Mr. Preston.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, that is partly it; it is the number of -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He has done a supplemental statement in
relation to that which at the moment seems to be pointing
at the question of recyclability and no more.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, the dairy cows matter again was specifically
because the Plaintiffs had claimed that there was no
evidence that they used any dairy cattle. Why they wish to
deny it, I do not know.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it suggested that any of the
establishments, which are under "My Observations" on pages
2 and 3, relate to plants which supply McDonald's?

MR. MORRIS: We are not sure. I think that is something we have
to contact Mr. Tyler about. I think some of the
establishments were mentioned by Mr. Bowes, was it, or
Mr. Walker. We have to check. We had the impression that
one of them may be a supplier. Of course, McDonald's have
not exactly been co-operative in letting us know -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. It also makes it difficult if he says
because of agreements with the owners of establishments he
is unwilling to reveal their identity too. How long are you
expecting him to take?

MR. MORRIS: We did not envisage his evidence to last more than
half a day, something like. Obviously, the matter about
the conversation with Paul Preston is a very simple matter
of just simple fact.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have any other witnesses you have in
mind, apart from Mr. Bruton?
