Day 127 - 23 May 95 - Page 07

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long do they take altogether?

MS. STEEL: I do not know. There are about seven or eight of
them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I really cannot consider an adjournment
because you have someone coming or someone has made an
appointment to repair a video machine.

MS. STEEL: I did try to get it fixed last week.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: May be, but have you tried to borrow one from
a friend?

MS. STEEL: No, I do not know anybody who has one; Mr. Morris
has not got one.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you asked Barlows whether they can lend
you one or someone can lend you one?

MS. STEEL: They are usually unwilling to pay for a third set of
photocopies to go into the trial bundles so ......

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you asked? For all I know, whatever
Barlows -- someone on the other side could walk in tomorrow
or drive in with a video recorder player to lend to you for
a week or two in the boot of the car or their holdall.

MS. STEEL: I have made efforts to try to sort it outside of
when I thought the court would be sitting. I do not
automatically think of asking the Plaintiffs for everything
---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I know, I understand that.

MS. STEEL: -- for anything, really.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You look to your own friends first. But if
it really is the situation that you have not a single
friend you can ask who has a video recorder which they
might be prepared to lend you for a day or two, then
I would have thought the obvious thing is to have a word
with Mrs. Brinley-Codd.

MS. STEEL: I do not know about that. There is also a further
problem which is that more documents were served last week
by the Plaintiffs relating to Mark Hopkins and yesterday,
and obviously we have contacted our witnesses about those.
We are waiting for them to get back to us with comments on
them after they have finished reading them. Obviously, we
are not happy about cross-examining on those particular
issues at this stage in any event.

MR. MORRIS: I think what we are saying is that I would be
prepared to accept that Jill Barnes starts her
examination-in-chief. I think, as regards Helen's
cross-examination, although I am not happy at not being
here, I will accept that it may be helpful if she does her
cross-examination this week, but I think what she is saying
