     1        was the sort of ethnic mix of those restaurants in
     2        Streatham and Penge?
     3        A.  They were both fairly mixed in terms of having quite a
     4        lot of black people who live and work in that area.

     6   Q.   What were the proportions, roughly speaking, of I will call
     7        them men and women, boys and girls, males and females, in
     8        those days in the restaurant?
     9        A.  I would say in most places I have worked it is nearly
    10        always roughly 50-50.  Obviously, I know the figures for
    11        that ----

    13   Q.   We will have a look at some figures later on, Ms. Mead.
    14        I think you joined the Personnel Department (as it was then
    15        called) in June 1985; is that right?
    16        A.  Yes.

    18   Q.   You were promoted to Field Personnel Officer in March 1987
    19        where I think you had some 40 restaurants to look after?
    20        A.  Yes.

    22   Q.   When you were a Field Personnel Officer did you conduct
    23        something called a personnel audit?
    24        A.  Yes.

    26   Q.   Where does the witness find the new document?  Miss Mead,
    27        could you find a yellow volume X and turn, please, to tab 7
    28        where you should find a statement made by you for the
    29        purposes of these proceedings?
    30        A.  Yes.

    32   Q.   Behind that Mrs. Brinley-Codd tells me you should find a
    33        slim bundle of papers about that thick.  The first one in
    34        that lot should be a copy of a personnel procedure
    35        evaluation report?
    36        A.  Yes.

    38   Q.   Is this what I call a personnel audit or not?
    39        A.  Yes, it is.

    41   Q.   It is.  How many of these have you actually conducted
    42        personally?
    43        A.  Again I would say I have lost count, but on the basis
    44        I would -- I used to do maybe two or three a month, so
    45        again many.

    47   Q.   Are they still done?
    48        A.  Yes.  The report itself, obviously, as time goes on is
    49        changed and updated, but the basis of it is all there and
    50        it is still done.

    52   Q.   If you just remind yourself, flick through it, there is 
    53        only a bit I am going to ask you about particularly, but we
    54        see that scores are given for different features of
    55        personnel performance.  Is that the right way of putting
    56        it?
