Day 150 - 07 Jul 95 - Page 05
does.

Q. I suppose the answer is "yes" to this, because you were a
fully flexible member, presumably, you worked during busy
periods?
A. Yes.

Q. From time to time?
A. Absolutely, yes.

Q. In those months and any other time when you have been
working in stores, have you ever had any sort of accident
or incurred any sort of personal injury in your work?
A. I think when I first joined that I may have sort of
burnt a finger, you know, fingertips, or whatever, as I got
used to the equipment.

Q. How did that happen? Do you remember? It was some time
ago, you may not remember.
A. I do not really recall, but I guess just with a toaster
or something as I may have been removing the buns out of a
toaster because I was not really familiar with the
equipment. But with those sorts of things that once you do
it once, you do not do it again because you realise what
would happen.

Q. No, I can see that. When that happened what action was
taken by you or anyone else?
A. Well, if that happened I would generally be told to put
it under cold running water, which is what I think I tell
everybody now.

Q. When you were working as a crew member was it hard work?
A. Well, what I remember about working as a crew member
was that it was enjoyable work. It was probably hard at
times although that does not stick out in my mind as being
one of those particularly more memorable aspects of it.
I enjoyed, I suppose, the team effort, if you like.

Q. The team effort. Did you feel that when you were working
there you were at real risk as to your safety?
A. Not at all, no.

Q. Did you feel, perhaps, exploited in terms of the pay you
received?
A. No, no. Absolutely not. I was only going to do this
job really sort of for one year, so the idea was that I was
not really looking for a long-term career at that stage, so
I guess had I felt exploited or over-worked, then I would
have gone elsewhere.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Were you living at your home, your parents'
home still then?
A. No, I was in -- I think I was in rented accommodation
then in Newcastle or just outside Newcastle.

Q. So you had your own accommodation you were paying for?
A. That is right, yes, sir.

MR. ATKINSON: In the time that you were a crew member, were you
