Day 150 - 07 Jul 95 - Page 15

       A. No, never.

  Q. How much can you remember of your time as an Area
Supervisor at Colchester? Obviously, it is an obvious
point that it is now eight to nine years ago; how much are
       you able to remember?
       A. I can probably remember sort of some generalities to
begin with in terms of how I viewed the job at the time
coming from a restaurant that was very busy and having to
be responsible for restaurants that were relatively
quieter, the challenge, perhaps the nervousness of doing
the job. I do recall a sense of achievement and the fact
that we were working together. We were, I think -- if you
ask me specifics I would have probably great difficulty,
but my general overall impression of those 16 months,
whatever it was, in Colchester was one of enjoyment and
       achievement, purpose.

  Q. Just going on from that, specifically, what was your
impression of the way that the store was run by the
management in the store at Colchester?
       A. I think it was run very well and again, like
I mentioned earlier, I would like to think that some way
helped the store achieve Store of the Year in 87. It
certainly helped me become Supervisor in the year in 1987.

  Q. Who was the Store Manager at that time at Colchester?
       A. In Colchester it was Mark Davies.

  Q. What was your impression of him, not as a person
personally, but in terms of his abilities or otherwise as a
       Store Manager at that time?
       A. I think he was very committed. What impressed me about
him was that he knew his people really well, and I cannot
remember his personal history but I think he had been there
right from the day the restaurant opened and, sort of, set
up those relationships. I certainly got that impression
when I joined Worcester, for example. You get to know
people the very day and that camaraderie, opening the
restaurant for the very first time in a new area because it
is the first McDonald's restaurant, and having been there
for such a relatively long length of time it struck me to
know his people very well; he had a very good team of
people which made my job obviously easier.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You would be about 25 or 26 then, would you?
       A. As a Supervisor, I was probably about 23 -- 25, yes,
       sorry.

  Q. How old was Mark Davies, what sort of age?
       A. I was probably about the same age. Maybe 26, maybe a
       year older.

MR. ATKINSON: Can we turn now, Mr. Stanton, to the question of
pay; again we have heard something generally about pay in
this case. Back in the mid-1980s there was a starting
       rate, was there?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And at Colchester that would be a provincial rate?
