Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 11

established 100 crew, probably about 30 per cent of them
       were full-time.

  Q. You will have noticed, I expect, Mr. Giardina, that in his
witness statement Mr. Magee -- my Lord, this is pages 12
and 13 of his statement -- makes quite a meal of what he
proposes was the ethnic breakdown of the crew in his time.
       Did you notice that?
       A. I did, yes.

  Q. Is that something which you ever concerned yourself with?
       A. Not really, no.

  Q. Is the local area, I do not know what we call it, Holloway
       perhaps?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is that a mixed area?
       A. Very mixed, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I meant to ask, you started when you were 16
in Enfield. Is that the area you came from?
       A. Yes, I actually live in Enfield.

  Q. Were you born in North East London?
       A. I was born in Hertford and then my parents moved over
       to Enfield in 1972.

  Q. So you were really brought up in North East London; it is
what you call your home area anyway?
       A. Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Were your parents born in this country?
       A. No. They both were born in Sicily and emigrated over
       here in the early 60s.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Perhaps I should just call it North London.

MR. RAMPTON: Your Lordship's geography of that part of the
       metropolis is better than mine.

(To the witness): What about the under 18s, which you say
were never more than 10 per cent -- what time did the
       restaurant close?
       A. It closed at 11 p.m. every day.

  Q. Roughly speaking, what proportion of the under 18s were
       females, can you remember?
       A. No, I cannot remember.

  Q. Were there very few females or were there quite a lot, it
       varied, I suppose?
       A. Maybe three, four, maximum.

  Q. Did any of the regular crew members -- you say you closed
at 11.00, would there have been days when you trickled over
to 11.10, 11.15, that kind of thing?
       A. Yes, sometimes you might get a little pub rush at the
end of it and we would stay open another five, 10 minutes
       maximum.
