Day 186 - 10 Nov 95 - Page 06

saying that McDonald's are trying to make out that their
food is healthy, i.e. a useful and nutritious part of any
diet, when the evidence points to the opposite", and then
you went on and said, "and that is the evidence of a link."
But, I mean, I can forget the words, "and that is the
       evidence of a link".

MS. STEEL: Where are we, sorry?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: For the purpose of your definition of
meaning, can I not? It is clear that the leaflet -----

MS. STEEL: I am lost as to where -- where did you say it was
       in the transcript?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was day 53, page 5.

MS. STEEL: Do you know what line it was?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, but it is only one page.

  MS. STEEL: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Towards the bottom of page 5, line 50.

MS. STEEL: Right. That was not actually the part I was
referring to. I was referring to -- at some point
I actually read out -- yes, it was on page 3.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I have that. But I have all that, as
well. But I thought -- I am not neglecting what you put at
page 3 from line 12, but it seemed to me -- correct me if I
am wrong, because this is the whole point of us having a
full argument on it -- it seemed to me that what you said
at page 5, line 50, as far as the semi-colon, really very
succinctly said what you thought the thrust of the leaflet
       was.

MS. STEEL: Right. To be honest, reading it now -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Anyway, do you want to repeat without reading
that which is at page 3, lines ---

MS. STEEL: I actually wrote out ---

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- 12 to 27?

MS. STEEL: -- a shorter meaning, because I thought you felt
       that was -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We are starting afresh on the argument, so
why do you not give me that?

  MS. STEEL: OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Nothing said in the past is going to be held
against you. I want to find what the meaning is.

MS. STEEL: Right. McDonald's portray their food as a useful
and nutritious part of any diet.
