Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 05

the problem could be resolved. At the time I had no reason
       to disbelieve him.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have read through your notes -- I say
your notes, because they are notes taken by McDonald's
       solicitors.
       A. Yes, sir.

  Q. You have read those through, have you ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- since they have been typed up; and do you stand by them?
       A. I do, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You say so in your statement, but
       I just wanted to check.

MS. STEEL: After Ray Coton showed you how to solve this
problem (as you saw it) that was something that you learned
and you used to do it yourself?
       A. Yes. I would say it was only ever done on another
occasion, that it was never really a problem.

  Q. So, are you saying that it was or that it was not going on
       under Ray Coton's management?
       A. What, sorry?

  Q. The watering down of products, the shake mix, cola, the
ketchups, mustards, the double brewing of coffee?
       A. There were rumours that went around that it happened,
but, as I have stated in my own statement, only on two
occasions did I ever witness such an act happen.

  Q. You only became a Floor Manager shortly before Mr. Coton
took over as Store Manager, did you not?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, that is not right. He became over a year
before, from May 1986 to August 1987, he was under
       Mr. Davis as Floor Manager.

MS. STEEL: That is correct, is it not: you only became a Floor
Manager a year or so before Mr. Coton took over as
       Store Manager?
       A. I became a Floor Manager in May 1986.

  Q. We have got the figures here. The point is, you were only
in a fairly lowly position, were you not, at that time?
       A. When Ray was a Store Manager?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. That was when Mark Davis was still the
Store Manager. He stopped and -----
       A. I was a Floor Manager for a year under Mark Davis,
       I believe, yes.

  Q. It was something like 15 months?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: When Mr. Coton explained to you how to solve the
problem, as you saw it, was that early on in his management
or was that later on under his management?
