     3   MR. JUSTICE BELL:   These are the two days, are they?

     5   MS. STEEL:  Yes, that you asked for yesterday.

     7   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Good.  What I will do is put them in the
     8        appropriate place in my own bundle of notes and give them
     9        some appropriate number following on what is before.

    11   MS. STEEL:  OK, thank you.  If it is possible, we would like a
    12        few minutes more because Professor Crawford had problems
    13        getting here so we did not have quite as long to chat to
    14        him as we wanted to.

    16   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  What do you want to ask him about?

    18   MS. STEEL:  It is just a couple of points that we wanted to
    19        discuss with him about some of the charts.

    21   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Tell me what they are.

    23   MS. STEEL:  We have just got the reference papers for the
    24        coronary heart statistics.

    26   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Take me to his statement and say what the
    27        points are, because it is obviously drafted by Professor
    28        Crawford.

    30   MS. STEEL:  Yes, I know, but the thing is if we do not
    31        understand it, it is very hard for us.  We would just
    32        rather clarify something before the witness starts being
    33        cross-examined and we are not exactly sure of what
    34        something is.

    36   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Take me to the part of the statement and tell
    37        me what it is, because it seems pretty comprehensive to
    38        me.  What is the part?

    40   MS. STEEL:  I just wanted to speak to Professor Crawford about
         the chart at the back of this thing and the heart
    42        statistics and I do not think it will take longer than
    43        about five or ten minutes.

    45   MR. MORRIS:  Professor Crawford has just given us the references
    46        in his statement.

    48   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Yes.

    50   MR. MORRIS:  And a book which contains mortality statistics for
    51        heart disease and cancer for 20 countries, which we have
    52        not had time to talk to him or even look at, but it may be
    53        very helpful.

    56        Professor Crawford.
