1 Q. When you say you had nothing to do with putting the leaflet
2 complained of in this case on the Internet, that is a
3 truthful answer which we are supposed to accept is it?

6 Q. Can you look at this first, I think I read the first page,
7 look, please, at the third page? This is another
8 Mcspotlight press release. This one I do not have a date
9 for. Maybe it is the same date, but at the bottom of the
10 third page in this little bundle it has got a PO4 in the
11 top right hand corner. There is what purports to be a
12 quote from you and Mr. Morris?
13 A. Where are you?

15 MR. JUSTICE BELL: The PO4 is only half there, it is the third
16 sheet of the document itself?
17 A. Okay. All right, yes.

19 MR. RAMPTON: The last paragraph, and it is a quote attributed
20 to you. You tell me, of course, in a moment whether you
21 have said it or not. "We have been defending the right to
22 criticise multinational corporations for over five years
23 since McDonald's served the writ on us. The campaign is
24 clearly unstoppable. Mcspotlight now makes freely
25 available across the globe everything they don't want the
26 public to know and in the kind of detail that all those who
27 value the truth will appreciate. We are backing
28 Mcspotlight one hundred per cent."

30 MR. JUSTICE BELL: May I say that my copy is cut off in the left
31 hand margin in some places but--

33 MR. RAMPTON: Shall I read in the bits that are missing? My
34 Lord, the first line has got a quote in front of "we".

36 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is all the way down the page, it is a
37 quote "we", is it?

39 MR. RAMPTON: Yes, it is quote "we". The next word is obviously
40 "corporations". Then beginning of the third line the word
41 "us" is missing before the full stop. The fourth line the
42 word is "freely", the fifth line the word is "public", the
43 sixth is "value", and all that is missing from the last
44 line is "dash, the Mclibel 2, Helen Steel and Dave
45 Morris."

47 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

49 MR. RAMPTON: Is that a true and fair account, Miss Steel, of
50 what you said to the Mcspotlight people or to the Mclibel
51 support campaign, or whoever it was?
52 A. I did not actually say this. However, I did agree to
53 it going in as if it was a quote. Somebody read it out to
54 me and said, "Does that sound okay?" I said, "Yes". All
55 right?

58 A. Obviously, it does say about "in the kind of detail
59 that all those who value the truth will appreciate."
