Is there any instance of McDonalds not giving out a particular Happy Meal on the basis of gender?
Oh, ok so really they are offering a choice of toys with Happy Meals. This IS bad! I really dont want a selection! I want them to find a neutral toy so we can take choice out of the process.
If you look for evil, you can find it, or atleast create it. Are the toys inheriently stereotypical? Can a boy be allowed to play with barbie? Can a girl a truck (or whatever)?
Yes they are marketed to the particular genders but is this reactive to society or their attempt to shape society? Chicken or the egg?
Maybe my view is through rose colored glasses, but playing a gender card like that raises a whole bunch of other issues.
