: : America is not a capitalist laissez -faire country. : That's why it has lasted so long as a capitalist country. A perfect capitalist system with complete freedom of capital would have not lasted for longer than a few decades at most. Interference of the state to regulate and control capitalist development has been instrumental in proping up this economic system. That's why the separation of state and economy that Rand advocates is an impossibility under capitalism. And what would the function of the state be if separated from economic system?
And I suppose anarchy-socialism would last for a very long time, huh?
The [ideal] function of the state in my fairly libertarian view is only to protect the rights of individuals, to Insure more ristrictive governments don't come into being, and to offer justice in court via jury of our peers. No military (citizens "militia"), no national education, road ways, or housing (all would be privitized). It would be unconstitutional to meddle with the capitalism, thus business would lose much intrest in campains and spending would regulate itself just like the rest of capitalism.
The constitution of this Capital-Utopia would be similar to the US, with a few differences-- Supreame court justices should be elected by the people, the electoral college abolished, and people referendums given national power exceeding that of the congress. In this purer Democratic-Republican-Capitalism, unconstitutional cabinets will sinally be struck down and the president would fall into his rightful, less powerful, place.
I'm glad Mark da Cunha made this informative Rand/Capitalism site.
