Installing the components

This section indicates how to install some of the Solution-Pac / WAN software components (UM-Agent , UM-Client , UM-Console+) on a Windows 2000/XP computer.

Before proceeding with the installation, we assume that you have read the installation Pre-requisites .

If you use UM-Agent:

• Start by installing the components on THE computer CONNECTED DIRECTLY to the UPS.
• SNMP native agent has to be configured with following rights : "Read/Write" for public community. Default setting is "Read/Create" for public community.
• If you are on THE computer CONNECTED DIRECTLY to the UPS, at the same time as UM-Agent, you must also install UM-Client to protect it and UM-Console+ to display UPS data and to test UM-Agent.

If you use UM-Client:

• Check that following service is stopped: "SNMP Trap Service" for Windows 2000 or for Windows XP.
  This service prevents UM-Client from starting. UM-Client returns following error: "Error snmp15"

Follow these steps to install Solution-Pac / WAN components :

• Check that you have administrator rights on Windows 2000/XP system.
• Insert the CD-ROM in the drive.
• For Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, if the welcome screen does not appear automatically, select the Run option from the task bar and enter <DRIVE_NAME>:\STARTUP,
  The Solution-Pac CD-ROM welcome screen appears. Choose the « language », « accept the conditions », then click on « installation » and follow the instructions displayed on screen:
  Remark: This section of the documentation follows the various installer steps. You can also consult the documentation at the same time as you carry out the installation. Reactivate the Solution-Pac CD-ROM welcome screen ("Alt" "Tab" keys) then select "Documentation".
• There are two types of installation:
  Personal Solution-Pac
  Solution-Pac / WAN
  Choose Solution-Pac / WAN to install the components described in this documentation.
• A screen is displayed . You must select the Solution-Pac / WAN components if you want to install on the target computer according to the architecture you have chosen :
  - UM-Agent communicates with the UPS.
  - UM-Client protects the system.
  - UM-Console monitors the UPS
• In the UM-Client dialog box, please select either « Windows 2000/XP Server » or « Windows 2000/XP Professionnal Station » according to your system.
• If you have a modem, an optional module allows the transmission of messages using, for example, Pager, messaging, FAX, e-mail etc. ( To install it, check the box "Pager, E-mail etc. option. )
• A screen prompts you to enter the parameters of the components installed chosen to communicate between the computer and UPS.
• You can start the installed components by clicking on the "Start" button of the screen that prompts you and you can remove the CD-ROM from the drive after exiting the Solution-Pac welcome navigator screen.
• If you are on THE computer directly connected to the UPS, you must test UM-Agent.
• You must test UM-Client.
• If you have installed and tested the components required to protect this computer, the protection is now active on this computer and will be run automatically on each startup.
• Install UM-Client on the other computers to be protected.

IMPORTANT: If you stop THE computer UM-Agent was installed on, no other computer will be protected.
