Installing the components

      This section indicates how to install some of the Solution-Pac / WAN software components ( UM-Agent , UM-Client ) on a Netware Server and UM-Console+ on a Windows station.

      Before proceeding with the installation, we assume that you have read the installation Pre-requisites .

      If you use UM-Agent start by installing the components on THE server CONNECTED DIRECTLY to the UPS.
      If you are on THE server CONNECTED DIRECTLY to the UPS, at the same time as UM-Agent, you must also install UM-Client to protect it.

      Important:
      Netware system requires       specific configurations to:

      • configure native agent,
      • configure SNMP for Netware 4.1,
      • configure serial port for UM-Agent,
      • customize UM-Client command files.

      The installation on a Novell server is performed from a Windows station (Windows Me, 98 or 95, windows NT, Windows 3.x or OS/2 in Windows emulation mode). This Windows station must be connected to the Netware file server that you will protect by your MGE UPS.

      Follow these steps to install Solution-Pac / WAN components :

      • Check that you have administrator rights on Novell Netware system.
      • Insert the CD-ROM in the drive.
      • If the welcome screen does not appear automatically, select the Run option from the task bar and enter <DRIVE_NAME>:\STARTUP
      • The Solution-Pac CD-ROM welcome screen appears. Choose the « language », « accept the conditions », then click on « installation » and follow the instructions displayed on screen:
        Remark: This section of the documentation follows the various installer steps. You can also consult the documentation at the same time as you carry out the installation. Reactivate the Solution-Pac CD-ROM welcome screen ("Alt" "Tab" keys) then select "Documentation".
      • There are two types of installation:
        Personal Solution-Pac
        Solution-Pac / WAN
         Choose Solution-Pac / WAN to install the components described in this documentation.
      • A screen is displayed . You must select the Solution-Pac / WAN components you want to install on the target server according to the architecture you have chosen :


        - UM-Agent communicates with the UPS.
        WARNING:
         You must select on this screen « Novell Netware » as target system and install UM-Agent on system disk
        - UM-Client protects the system.
        WARNING:
         You must select on this screen « Novell Netware » as target system and install UM-Client on system disk
        - Note:
         From this selection screen, we recommend you to select the UM-Console+ component to install it on the Windows station from which you access to the Novell Server.

      • If you have a modem, an optional module allows the transmission of messages using, for example, Pager, messaging, FAX, e-mail etc. (To install it, check the box "Pager, E-mail etc. option".)
      • A screen prompts you to enter the parameters of the components installed chosen to communicate between the server and the UPS.
      • You can remove the CD-ROM from the drive after exiting the Solution-Pac welcome navigator screen.
      • You have to start the installed components : UM-Agent UM-Client
      • If you are on THE server directly connected to the UPS, you must test UM-Agent.
      • You must test UM-Client .
      • If you have installed and tested the components required to protect this server, the protection is now active on this server and will be run automatically on each startup.
      • Install UM-Client on the other servers to be protected.

      IMPORTANT: If you stop the server UM-Agent was installed on, no other computer will be protected.
