Nagasaki is a port city on the island of Kyushu. Since Nagasaki's port is one of the closest ports to the mainland, it played an important role in trade relations with foreign countries. During the period of isolation from the rest of the world, the port of Nagasaki was the only one open for a restricted number of Dutch and Chinese traders.
Three days after Hiroshima, Nagasaki was the second target of an atomic bomb dropped in the end of World War II by the US Air Force. More information on this topic can be found on a special information page. Please visit the Nagasaki pages of our Photo Gallery. |
