October 1998 Editorial
Original Publishing Date (y/m/d): 1998-10-01

What's up with time?

Looking back at the last month, september, you realise that it is actually october. A couple of interesting announcements were made last month, to skip the rest and put the best first, LittleWing announced the release of their sixth pinball "Golden Logres"! Actually this was an announcement of the release of the english version and of a version you can't buy in the stores, instead you download it from their homepage and then send them money, receive a serial in return and then you have the full working version which the stores will hopefully start selling soon. The Japanese version of both their 5th (Angel Egg, not yet released in english, though supposedly should be in a near future) and 6th pinball have been out for quite a while. Look in to their homepage to read more, littlewing.co.jp/eng.

Sierra is as I mentioned last month on the way with a fourth pinball in their 3d ultra pinball line. Some more information on this title follows. Three tables are featured: The Garage, Each race starts in the garage where you tune up your car for the race. There you will see your car and 8 targets representing parts you can adjust to improve your car's performance. The Speedway, This is where the races will be held and where you'll be scoring the points to win them. The Pitstop, The pitstop table is where you go to rejuvenate your car after all the wear and tear of the Speedway. Your car is losing efficiency with every lap and accident. Finally: If you win enough races, you'll get a chance at the championship in a special Winner's Circle event. You win races by scoring as many points as possible.

A msg recently posted to rec.games pinball by someone at Dynamix says:

"Although our previous pinball sims have been criticized for having less-than-superior pinball physics, the NASCAR game engine has been substantially reworked, with the goal of more accurate ball and game action, and I think you'll find it a great improvement..."

Well, an improvement is to be expected in any new released (though some companies seem to miss out on that, I just remembered that statement the makers of, never released, hyper 2 Up Tilt! made about they being able to come up with a new pinball table a month, can one really make a pinball with good rules, theme and depth in such a short time?), though I am still uncertain as of how this pinball will turn out. Sierra has as I raved about in last months editorial their own certain style of design. Otherwise if you have missed out on it, a nascar pinball demo is now available.

On the concern of BRUSA we are still waiting for it's release. A month or so ago it was uncertain whetever a mac version would be released or not, this situation though - luckily - turned to the better and a mac version will be released. Supposedly the mac and pc version should this time be released at the same time, will be interesting to see if that means the same time, the same day, the same month, the same year. :-)
Did anyone attend to ECTS to check out BRUSA?

Sitting here writing I came to think of 21st Century and began to wonder what has happened to their line up of pinballs. Though I suppose it's a bit optimistic to expect any of their planned titles this year since it was in february-march this year they announced that they were going to develop their own pinballs.

I also mentioned a couple of pinball cd titles in last months editorial (pb classics, pb power), those were cds containing different pinball demos and shareware's. I got a lot of information on other cds like these and added a section to the reviews page that lists only pinball demo/shareware cds!

I hope someone read my preview of MPA (microsoft pinball arcade, I though the acronym map was better than mpa, but now map doesn't mean anything in this case), looking forward to the final release. I liked the pinball, though there was things on concern of feeling I wished would be improved, there always is... Ah well, if one should take a game of baffle ball now? :)

*Thwack*
